Instyle Magazine ~ Zendaya Is Entering Her Boss Phase

Thursday, November 18, 2021

Yes, I know all the pics of Zendaya are the definition of fashion, but this really was a great interview.
Our perception of someone is merely the pictures on a page, the characters they play and that is still based on "our perception".  So it's nice to read an interview and just learn something about that person. Like working in an industry notorious for bad deals and contracts, Zendaya admits she had to be forced to read her contracts, by her parents. Who knew that someone as natural as she seems to us, can over analyze herself out of a scene.

"I've worked consistently since I was 13 years old.  So when I had nothing but free time, I was like, "What do I do with this? What are my hobbies?" I don't have hobbies-I do my hobby for a living.

"If something  is not perfect or the best, then I feel like I might as well have not even done it"

"I think my biggest flaw as a boss is I'm a procrastinator"

Shelf Portrait with Marie Claire

Tuesday, November 16, 2021

Always on the search for a good book, some of the best insight into the latest books, are recommendations by various magazines.

So combing through Marie Claire's IG account, I found they have a really kool series called
Shelf Portrait, where various authors, comedians, actresses, etc., share their favorite books on their bookshelves.  They have all kinds of suggestions from self care to horror to beloved kids books.  Some are old, some are new and some are actually their books and why shouldn't your book be one of your favorites.

Wanna know what Lana Condor or Julianna Margulies considers the best book ever written? How about Bridgerton author Julia Quinn, what's in her library and it just keeps getting better with Tia Mowry, Priyanka Chopra, Jeremiah Brent, Gina Yashere and even Alanis Morrisette. And who doesn't LOVE Dolly Parton!!!!!!

I've posted a view videos below and you can scroll their Marie Claire Youtube Channel for more!

Erin Jackson Just Became the First Black American Woman to Win a Speed Skating World Cup

Sunday, November 14, 2021

On November 12th, Erin Jackson became the first Black American woman to win a speed skating World Cup title. History has been made and her future looks promising for the 2022 Olympics in Beijing China.

Watch her historic win below!

Looking to learn more about this historic moment and to find out more about Erin, I was able to learn a lot from NBC Sports, like the fact that she's won both national and world championship titles in inline skating and her career in speed skating has been a rocket pace.  Starting in 2017 and only being on ice an accumulative 4 months, her first ever competitive speed skating event was the 2018 US Olympic Trials, where she placed third and made the team.

To learn more about this historic event and to learn more about Erin, Oh So Worth a Read,

A Crime on the Bayou ~ A Documentary Film by Nancy Buirski

Thursday, November 11, 2021

A Crime on the Bayou, a Documentary Film by Nancy Buirski, (The Loving Story), is the true story of Gary Duncan, who in 1966, in the south of New Orleans was a young Black fisherman who tried to break up a fight between white and black teenagers outside a school.  He gently lays his hand on the white boy's arm.  That night police arrest him for assault on a minor.

This is his story of the fight not only for Gary Duncan's innocence, but for the right to a simple trial by jury.  But what makes this Oh So Worth a View, is the bond between he and his Jewish attorney and the history they made in the court system for blacks and for the right to stand trial by your peers, and not to be tried and judged by a "judge".

Watch the official trailer below and you can watch the documentary now available on Starz.

Let Love Have the Last Word by Common

Sometimes we find that our best, that the love we give to those we love, isn't received in the manner in which we intended.  Sometimes we find that those we love the most, we've hurt the most, even with the best intentions.  And sometimes we find that a past so forgotten, has shaped us to be who we are today and from there, we find ourselves, we find growth, we find forgiveness.

Oh So Worth a Read ~ How I Mental Health wth Manolo Blahnik

Saturday, September 25, 2021
Of course if you know fashion you know Manolo Blahnik and you want a pair of his shoes.  The name of course is synonymous with Sex in the City and I still to this day,  want that pair of Manolo Blahniks Carrie's ass left in the closet of that penthouse, in the First Sex in the City movie.
Not only is he the master of a beautiful shoe, he has also mastered managing his mental health.  #9 is my favorite, I appreciate the honesty of #17 and #4 I believe we do not do enough. Oh So Worth a Read, How I Mental Health Manolo Blahnik as told to Ling Chu.

Beyoncé - 7/11

Sunday, September 5, 2021

Celebrating Beyonce's 40th Birthday by posting my jam and video.
I don't care how old it is THIS MY JAM AND THIS MY VIDEO..SO THERE!
It's just a simple, funny and hugely fun video for me. This song makes me dance in my apartment, bump in car and makes me give people that "I ain't got nothing for you 'til this song ends" attitude.

How Y'all Doing? Misadventures and Mischief from a Life Well Lived by Leslie Jordan

Sunday, August 22, 2021

Life is so filled with so many roads we can take and we only have our gut instincts, which we tend to ignore, our upbringing and who we are surrounded by on our journey, to get us to who we are meant to be.

Perfection - Tidal by Fiona Apple

Tuesday, August 3, 2021

I can't even remember how I came to hear her, to have the gift of this most beautifully crafted collection of music.  I didn't even know she won a Grammy for the cd, let alone the songs were composed when she was only 17 and she was only 18 when Tidal was released.  I just know that to this day, I LOVE THIS CD from beginning to end.

A View ~ "What a Miracle" Spoken Word Lyric Video by Ariel Estoria

Monday, August 2, 2021

While perusing @chasingdenisse Instagram, HER BABY IS SOOOO ADORABLE LIKE OMG,  I came across a comment by ArielEstoria and felt compelled to check out her profile.  On her page, she just has this infectious womanhood, like this self love like give it up for your self and who you are type flow going on and I just couldn't get enough.  But this video right here, it just moved me, it just pulled out of me and put into words so many things.  It's bigger than relating to, it's a definition and permission to acknowledge and let go and be who you are, a black woman.

Keeps the Natives (residents at my property) Alive

Thursday, July 29, 2021

Playlist come from all walks of our lives from love and war to that job that pays well, gives free rent, 5 weeks vaca per year and free health insurance...but it doesn't mean there aren't cons, like HUGE CONS. One of those being people think they can treat you like shit because they pay rent, so you have to find a way to deal, something to get you by.

For me that's my daily and I do mean daily, trip to Starbucks.  And one of the highlights of my daily trip is the great music I get to hear.  So great I started a playlist of the songs I hear each time I go to Starbucks, rather its here in LA, in Pasadena, even in Nebraska and back home in Illinois.

I call the playlist, Keeps the Natives Alive.  Yeah I know, I've had two people say I can't call it that and I've another calculate how much I spend a year at Starbucks.  Well, it's like this, my daily trip to Starbucks is cheaper than attorney's fees for killing a native, clears throat, killing a resident I mean.

Oh So Worth A Listen presents the Spotify Playlist, Keeps the Natives Alive, my daily dose of music from the land of Starbucks.

J. Cole ~ The Off-Season

Sunday, May 23, 2021

My girls from the QuestLove sets from the pandemic, know that I'm always looking out for content for Oh So Worth a Listen.  So our thread was blowing up about J. Cole's new release, The Off-Season and how I had to listen and it should be on my blog.  I admit, I couldn't tell you one song this man has ever made, but I am aware of who he is and because my girls hit me up, I decided to give it a listen.
