Crumbs & Whiskers

Saturday, December 15, 2018

Today I got to make a difference and give some caresses, rubs and love to some adorable kitties all while sipping on a hot chocolate.  My daughter, her best friend Marina and I, learned about this place called Crumbs and Whiskers on Melrose.  The pics on Instagram are so cute, it's for a great cause and we love kitties, so we knew we were going.

What is Crumbs and Whiskers?
Not only can you make a difference, you can actually help ensure these babies are cared for and adopted.  Here's how it works.  You set an appointment and reservations are paid at time of appointment setting, at $22.00 per person.  You blow that between lunch and breakfast and more on dinner most nights, so take that look off your face.  Now where was I? Yes, so you pay this, and it reserves you an hour and half to play with the kitties, pet them, take pics, etc.  You can also order a coffee, tea or hot chocolate for around $4.95.

Findlay - Waste My Time | Sofar London

Sunday, October 28, 2018
Another song from the show "Younger" that stuck with me.  The line in the chorus, "I don't ever want to waste my time", is probably what stood out to me cause Liza has multiple relationships on the show that bring her both love, fear, shame, stress and most of all fights with her relationship with herself.

John Legend, BloodPop® - A Good Night ft. BloodPop®

Saturday, October 20, 2018

When John Legend graced the world with his first solo cd, I couldn't breathe, I couldn't speak, I just couldn't explain what it meant to hear pure soul cd.  I grew up where the radio station didn't play soul music unless it by chance landed on Dick Clark's American Bandstand and even then the odds were slim.  Hell, you had to leave town to see an all black movie let alone a movie with a black lead.  After Super Fly and the droves of "coloreds" that came and formed lines around the block to see it, NEVER AGAIN!  Hell, it's 2018 and the locals still wonder what movies will show and which ones are too "black" and they'll have to plan a trip to go see.

Amandla Stenberg - Teen Vogue Interview - Sexual Assault and Dealing With Trauma

Sunday, October 7, 2018

Sexual Assault, the thread running thru so many of our conversations, debates and politics.  It happens at every age, across every race and gender.  But as women, what we do with it vs. what people think we should do with it and how we should process it, is addressed in a very poignant way in an exclusive interview with Amandla Stenberg.  Below is from their Instagram post, which led me to actually read the full article.

Disclosure - Omen ft. Sam Smith

My daughter, #pettycooper, plays a lot of songs by artist that I just can't quite wrap my head around the fact they have a record deal....I know I know every generation says that about their kid's music, but I had Michael Jackson so shut up.  Back to the song at hand, for this one. is the exception, this one stuck with me to this day.  Sam Smith, that voice and the perfect bpm to bump in my new MINI Cooper Countryman @miniofcamarillo.  Not a change of mind for sure about her musical taste, but you did alright with this one #PettyCooper!  Oh So Worth A Listen, Omen by Disclosure featuring Sam Smith.

Vincint: Slays"CREEP" and WOWS The Judges! | Finale | The Four

Vincint Cannady finalist on The Four

I don't watch TV, I don't even have cable and haven't had it for about 3 years now.  So you could say, based on this video, I definitely missed out.  The range, the truth, the from the gut belief in where I stand and what I can do engulfs this young man's performance and that ol' school church in my soul.

I hope he has a future filled with sharing his gift, Oh So Worth A Listen, Vincint Cannady's The Four performance of Creep by RadioHead.

I love the story behind this duet, it's truly, honestly and simply a humble story of trying, pursuing and not holding back from just wanting to do what you love.

TV Land's Younger - Produced by Darren Starr of Sex And The City

Sunday, July 8, 2018

This is my guilty pleasure, like totally binged watched the first four seasons.  I just needed something else to watch, something light cause we all know there is nothing light about Scandal and a few seasons of Scandal as delicious as they are, will set you back a few for some laughs.

So along comes Younger, on Hulu.  Yes, my son's Hulu account, I know I know, but hey, both my sons, my daughter and my daughter-in-law, have their on profile on my Netflix, so there.

When My Train Pulls In ~ Gary Clark Jr.

I LOVE MY BROTHER...with that being said, there is no loss that has hurt me more.  There is no loss that still hurts, that still haunts my thoughts, that gives me moments so deep I can't catch my breathe.
But also with that being said, I love music and no words can describe the impact music has had on my life and the strength in which it ties me to my brother.

Young, Gifted and Black?

Tuesday, July 3, 2018

My daughter Ariel, watches the show Black-ish.  Says its not all what she thought it would be and that it really is funny and extremely relevent to today.

I've watched a few episodes with her and once while jumping on my son's Hulu account, I wandered over to the spin-off of Black-ish, Grown-ish.  Totally and completely in love with this show.  Yes, my grown ass is in love with this show about a young girl's college experience and her learning who she is and realizing that as much as you do know is as much as you don't know.  Which leads me to my post.

Kendrick Lamar Wins Pulitzer Prize For Music

Wednesday, April 25, 2018

Did you know that Black History was made. on April 16th, 2018?  No, not simply history, cause we all know what our history books and media teaches us and shows us, what they want us to know, what they want us to believe, not what we need to know or even witness with our own lives.

5 Vagina Mysteries That Are Totally Normal |

Madge the Vag | Scary Mommy

We as women tend to discuss nothing about it!  We just wait once a year for our annual gyno visit, to unlock mysteries of our Vag.  With that being said, here's another way to gain some insight and get in touch with what's really going on...Mag The Vag is the bestest series ever.
Your questions get asked, your concerns are addressed and not once do you have to save face and ass too by lying and saying a friend of mine had this problem or a co-worker told me...just watch, listen and learn!  Check out my post of her video "Don't Stop Believen' Your Vagina Is A Powerhouse", great stuff.

I've never been a fan of Trey Songz, can't even tell you the name of one of his songs, but I'm sure there are a few I've bobbed my head to cause I know he's played in my household before.

BUT HIS ONE HERE...THIS IS MY JAM.  My Assistant Business Manager played this in her car one day and I was hooked out of the gate.  It had me poppin my fingers and if you know me then you know I POP my fingers.  It just has this great beat, this great chorus and it's just a great song to dance to.  Yes, I've been playing it in my apartment while unpacking and yes, I was shakin' my ass.  I may be 53 but don't act like you know cause you don't, I love a great song and I love to dance.

So on that note, click the pic and check out 1x1 by Trey Songz, it's Oh So Worth A Listen!

Yeeeaaahhh I had to come back and add some content...he's never been my type but Ok Trey I See You...don't even act like you didn't look, like own your shit please.  LOL

Ashley Graham is someone I have admired for impowering her curves to make the point that we are different sizes and different shapes but we are women as a whole and that needs to be embraced.  She has curves and does not apologize for them and I LOVE this about her.

 The Return of David Letterman

Please click pic to view NPR article.

Since my schedule is neither here nor there, meaning I'm off work and trying to find my health and mind, I took a not by my choice evening nap.  Waking to a phone filled with text messages from our family group text, about Baby Liam of course, to guessing what time it was by the brightness of the lighting coming from the interior courtyard, I grabbed my all-in-one remote.  More like best friend at the oddest moments.  Needless to say, I was instantly reminded I sent a text to my daughter condemning her for my not being able to use her Hulu account, so no Younger episodes for me tonight.  Netflix it is I thought and proceeded to click on my user profile.

Act Your Age Not Your Shoe Size 01.13.18

Sunday, January 14, 2018

I love fashion, I love to dress up or dress down.  I love to coordinate my look from head to toe to keeping it simple,  I will spend money on a good classic piece and yes, I bargain hunt.  Target and Santee Alley are your friends.

But as much as I love fashion, I hate it when women reach a "certain age" and dress like they've been subtracting a year from their age each birthday. And nothing takes away from a young lady's look, more so than when every outfit she wears, leaves nothing to anyone's imagination.   There is just a way to carry yourself that puts you on the map with out saying, stop shopping in the junior's department or get out of your daughter's closet and do us all a favor and put on some damn clothes.

Viola Davis Glamour Magazine Interview

Friday, January 12, 2018

Viola Davis' Personal Story Will Make You Love Her Even More

I've never gone hungry, I've never had rats in my home...I never knew what it was like to grow up in these conditions in anyone's home.  We lived on the southeast side of town, between two projects but our projects compared to actual inner city projects, looked like townhouses, that's literally what I've been told by people who lived in impoverished areas of some cities.
When I read Viola Davis' account of her childhood, in her interview with  for Glamour magazine, and what she went thru, it reminded me of just how much I did have growing up and just how much harder it could have been.  No, I'm not saying I didn't appreciate my mother working two jobs and having food on the table, lights on, running water, heat in the winter, ac in the summer and that this interview, her honesty about her childhood, opened my eyes.  I know all to well, how hard it could have been, but this interview, the details painted so vividly you can visualize it as clear as if you were there with her, gave me another level of appreciation.

I think this article even though it's from a few years ago, the message timeless and Oh So Worth A Read, for the new level of appreciation, for reflection and a renewed appreciation for what you do have and for where you are today.  To remind us of just how hard it could have been and how hard it can get and these are reasons to "Start Each Day with a Grateful Heart".

Reflect and Enjoy!

"I'm Wearing My Afro To Work Today. Deal With It."

Part of my blog features a section called Do You Every Day All Day!  I've found that at 53, most things from clothing to hairstyles and how I should look are tied to how old I am, not who I am.

So while scrolling thru Cosmopolitan's Instagram, I saw this amazing head of hair and when I clicked on the actual pic, I knew I'd found the perfect most obvious article to share on my blog.  "I'm Wearing My Afro To Work Today. Deal With It.", is an article that truly speaks volumes about what I mean when I say Do You Every Day All Day.  Can you believe this gorgeous head of hair, yes her own hair, was actually discouraged and denied her a job to do HAIR????? You'd never know by the smile on her face that she was ever denied her chance to learn, to gain skills and grow her God given talent because of her hair.

Well, needless to say, behind that smile is a woman of position, self worth and a woman         .
For the full story, click her pic and remember Do You Every Day All Day!
