Young, Gifted & Black - Zendaya

Wednesday, August 8, 2018

There is so much responsibility placed on your shoulders with every day expectations, when your that ripe old age of "fresh out of high school" to "oh your legal now".  But imagine being Young, Gifted & Black.

I stated in my post about Yara Shahidi, that maybe we need to step up and take on more responsibility

In the interview, Zendaya makes the statement, "Hair for black women is much deeper than follicles. Our hair can carry messages about our ability, our worth, and, yes, our freedom. " about black women and their hair, that to me, lent itself to black women vs. black women.  The whole "natural hair journey vs. women who straighten their hair" like I do vs. those who live in their weave, judge other black women for doing so.  We are more than our hair, so why do we want to be accepted for but judge our own by their hair.  Back to the point...she is 21 and yet this is her language, her conversation, her calling as a young, gifted and black female.  But why is this her language, her conversation and her calling is what needs to be asked.  Is it falling on her shoulders because we have not lifted through our voices, our actions and even our votes, to raise the conscientiousness and battle the wrong doings of the generations before her and in those in position in present day society to oppress a people, a gender, etc.
