Kendrick Lamar Wins Pulitzer Prize For Music

Wednesday, April 25, 2018

Did you know that Black History was made. on April 16th, 2018?  No, not simply history, cause we all know what our history books and media teaches us and shows us, what they want us to know, what they want us to believe, not what we need to know or even witness with our own lives. On April 16th, 2018, Kendrick Lamar took home the Pulitzer Prize for music. Not only is he the first artist, outside of jazz or classical musicians, to win this prestigious award, he is a Hip Hop artist.  How monumental is this you ask, well considering that the award for music began in 1943 and according to the New York Times, it wasn't until 1997 that a jazz musician not a classical musician took home the coveted prize, it's hugely monumental.  Have I listened to his cd, no.  So why am I featuring it as music to listen to? Cause it's Black History that's why. Cause it's factual and actual history that will get lost in the pages and the next news feed cause it's not monumental enough to be written in the history books and commemorated for it's excellence and ground breaking door opening opportunity for all music to have a chance at this prestigious award, that's why.

So as I intend to do, give it a listen, and if not a listen, check out the lyrics.  Give it the attention it deserves, give it the attention that garnered his cd a Pulitzer prize.

Oh So Worth a Listen, Kendrick Lamar.
